The Breakfast

Innkeepers, Liz and Carolyn, believe that the ingredients should speak for themselves without a lot of extra fuss. Apart from beautiful yeast breads sourced from a small, local baking company, everything is made from scratch in the Newcastle Inn kitchen including an assortment of homemade jams. Coffee drinkers enjoy a signature, specially blended coffee from Seacoast Coffee roasted in Maine and only available at the Newcastle Inn.

The Innkeepers

Liz and Carolyn Cooke are New Englanders who have collectively lived in all but one state in the region (hint: it's the smallest one). They met in Boston in 2013, and quickly realized their mutual love for music, cooking and entertaining. A few years later, Liz and Carolyn were married on a farm in Southern Maine and moved to the Portland area shortly thereafter. Always having dreamed of being innkeepers, they finally brought that dream to fruition in September 2021 in the amazing Mid-Coast of Maine. They look forward to welcoming you to the Newcastle Inn!

Lots of oysters with one shucked on top.

Oysters

If you love sweet, briny, meaty oysters then you have come to the right place – the shores of the Damariscotta River. Literally in “our backyard” the oysters that are grown in the Damariscotta River are viewed, by some, to be among the best in the country. The twice daily change in the tides brings a mix of fresh and salt water to the oysters which is what makes them so special.

Gardens and Grounds

Whether you enjoy it from the screen porch, the back deck or sitting in the Adirondack chairs in the backyard, Newcastle Inn’s gardens and grounds provide a quiet respite after a busy day of sightseeing. You will feel a sense of peace and tranquility take over as you enjoy the lovely view of the Damariscotta River.

In addition to the perennial gardens there is a garden dedicated to growing herbs and nasturtiums, which find their way to the breakfast table. The raised garden bed, located in a sunny spot, is filled with tomato plants.

A very special part of the grounds is the beautiful Variegated Copper Beech tree that provides afternoon shade. This unique tree with its’ maroon colored leaves edged with pink is a frequent topic of conversation since it is not commonly seen.
